During the fall of 2019, Karan and Anna met in the traditional way for millennials - on Hinge! (a dating app many of you may know). Both of them lived in East Village, New York—Karan near Tompkins Square Park and Anna in Alphabet City, closer to the Lower East Side. After a few days of playful banter via texts, particularly about a photo of Karan posing with a donut (which Anna insisted he must have eaten), they decided to meet for dinner on a Wednesday after work. Karan suggested a spot near his building, but Anna proposed a halfway point, and they agreed to meet at a quaint italian restaurant in the east village called Lavagna. Karan, inspired by the Netflix documentary "The Game Changers," was trying out a vegan diet and avoiding alcohol at the time. At dinner they spent the first 5-10 minutes debating whether to have a glass of wine. Anna thought a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon sounded perfect after a long day. Karan gave in - they decided to have the wine and ordered a couple of delicious pork-based dishes and out the window went Karan’s short-lived (few weeks) stint of being vegan. Throughout dinner, they talked about their interests, backgrounds, concerts, and more. Anna mentioned she was attending a concert with a mutual friend, Chase Anderson, that Friday, and Karan thought it sounded fun. As the restaurant closed, they realized they were the last ones there (the chemistry had started between these two). Karan walked Anna to her door, and that was the beginning of something special. On Friday, Karan texted Anna that he had bought tickets for the concert and would see her later that evening. They all attended the show and then moved to a nearby bar, where Anna met Karan’s good friend Felix. They spent the night dancing, laughing, and talking about Karan’s royal heritage in India. Funny enough, they were both headed back to Atlanta for the Thanksgiving holiday on the same flight the next morning…it was destined to work out between these two.
